Schools in Haiti

Education is fundamental to a strong community and a bright future. We’ve made our core commitment to education central to our Alltech Sustainable Haiti Project by adopting two Haitian primary schools in Ouanaminthe and Dondon, taking on full financial support of the schools’ operations, including teacher salaries, maintenance, supplies and meals for the children. Together with community volunteers, we have also completed extensive renovation work in order to provide the children with a safe and sanitary place to learn. These renovations have included the rebuilding of sanitary restrooms and cooking facilities, a new classroom, the installation of a water system and drainage for rain water, new roofing and a generator for electricity.

We have also provided a French teacher to coordinate curriculum programs between the two schools. Because we believe in the enriching power of the arts, we’ve brought together previous winners of the Alltech Vocal Scholarship Competition and the school children. They have spent months with one another, bonded by their shared love of music and its power to bring beauty and hope into difficult situations. The partnership has resulted in the formation of the Haitian Harmony children’s choir, which performed at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2010 in Kentucky.
