As a part of the Alltech^® Mycotoxin Management program, we test hundreds of crop and feed samples across Canada during harvest season to better understand current mycotoxin levels and the threat they pose to livestock. Mycotoxins affect all animals, from pigs to poultry, aqua, pets, equine, dairy cows and beef cattle.

Mycotoxins have been shown to reduce feed intake, lower immune response, damage gut integrity and cause poor fertility. Each of these issues can be a major cost to producers, and identifying and addressing these hidden challenges is crucial.

Meet the experts

	Dr. Alexandra Weaver Dr. Alexandra Weaver obtained her master’s degree and Ph.D. in animal science and nutrition from North Carolina State University under the direction of Dr. Sung Woo Kim. Her dissertation is entitled “The impact of mycotoxins on growth and health of swine,” which investigated the effects of mycotoxins on the performance, immunity, oxidative stress, gut health and reproductive capacity of pigs. She has published multiple research articles in several journals, including the Journal of Animal Science. In 2013, Weaver joined the Alltech® Mycotoxin Management team. In this role, she helps producers and nutritionists of all species understand and manage mycotoxins.
	Dr. Max Hawkins Dr. Max Hawkins received his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University and obtained his master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Tennessee. While completing his degrees at the University of Tennessee, he conducted research on feeder cattle evaluation and osteochondrosis in swine. He also coached the Livestock Judging Team and taught various livestock production classes. Hawkins taught animal science at Morehead State University and led a land development project in conjunction with mining companies in Eastern Kentucky. He later joined the staff at California Polytechnic State University, coaching the Livestock Judging Team and teaching animal nutrition and production classes. In addition, he became the director of genetic outreach for the National Purebred Swine Registry, directing the field staff and working with producers on genetic and performance programs
	Colin MacNeil Colin MacNeil currently serves as the Sales and Marketing Manager for Alltech Canada and is also the local resource for information on Alltech’s Mineral Management platform. His daily responsibilities include making sales and providing support for Alltech products across all species, and he works directly with Alltech customers to promote the efficiency of their operations. Prior to joining Alltech in 2015, Colin received a bachelor’s degree in animal biology from the University of Guelph. He is enthusiastic about the positive impact that agriculture can have on the environment and is excited to see the opportunities that will be available to the industry in the future.
	John Winchell John Winchell is a dairy ruminant nutritionist with over 25 years of experience. Over the years, motivated by his passion for helping producers reduce feed costs, he has specialized in forage quality and mycotoxins. John has analyzed over 5,000 forages and collected data to understand how to produce feeds with high nutritional value. John has conducted several webinars and articles on forages. In his new position, he manages the Rapiread program for Alltech worldwide.
