Mycosorb® A+ Evo and Mycosorb® Evo: An evolution in mycotoxin protection

The mycotoxin threat is constantly evolving — and so too must the solutions we use to combat this risk. In a previous blog, we examined how today’s mycotoxin challenge has shifted into a complex, multi-toxin problem. With compounds such as deoxynivalenol (DON), fusaric acid (FA) and penicillic acid increasingly occurring together, often alongside several other mycotoxins, traditional mitigation strategies may no longer offer adequate protection.
This is why Alltech formulated the Mycosorb® Evo range, consisting of two breakthrough technologies: Mycosorb® A+ Evo and Mycosorb® Evo. These patent-pending solutions represent the next evolution in mycotoxin mitigation, combining decades of research with cutting-edge innovation to deliver broader-spectrum coverage, stronger binding efficacy and proven protection for livestock.
Why next-generation solutions are crucial
Mycotoxins remain a persistent concern in livestock production. Produced by fungi such as Fusarium, Aspergillus and Penicillium, they contaminate crops in the field, at harvest and in storage. Alltech® 37+ testing has shown that more than 90% of global feed samples are contaminated, with an average of 5–8 mycotoxins per sample.
Particularly concerning are DON and fusaric acid:
- DON: Found at rising levels in wheat, barley, corn and forages, DON blocks protein synthesis, damages cells and undermines immunity. It reduces feed intake in pigs, impacts egg quality and hatchability in poultry, and lowers milk yield in ruminants.
- Fusaric acid: Present in over 80% of maize and forage samples worldwide, FA is less toxic alone but dramatically increases the severity of DON and other mycotoxins, amplifying reproductive, metabolic and immune challenges.
These toxins rarely occur in isolation. Instead, they create synergistic effects that amplify harm across species — from impaired sow reproduction to reduced milk yield in dairy cows and poor egg quality in layers. This makes broad-spectrum, multi-toxin protection essential.
The science behind the Mycosorb Evo range
Building on the legacy of the trusted Mycosorb range, the Mycosorb Evo technologies introduce new ingredients to deliver precise protection. Mycosorb Evo integrates functionalized yeast cell wall extract with a novel bacterial ingredient, delivering a significant leap in adsorption efficiency.
Mycosorb A+ Evo, combines yeast extracts with algae and a bacterial ingredient. This enhances binding of particularly problematic toxins — including Penicillium-derived mycotoxins such as penicillic acid, highly relevant for ruminants.
Proven performance
- These solutions boast 2x higher binding capacity for DON in vitro and 3x stronger adsorption of fusaric acid.
- They have demonstrated efficacy across aflatoxins, fumonisins, zearalenone, ochratoxins, ergot alkaloids and emerging toxins.
- In vitro pig intestinal cell studies showed +33% cell viability under DON challenge and +47% when DON and FA were combined.
- In vivo poultry trials confirmed improved feed conversion, reduced systemic toxin levels, supported immune response and healthier gut function under Fusarium challenges.
A tailored, flexible approach
The Mycosorb Evo range is designed to match protection levels to production risk:
- Mycosorb A+ Evo: For high-risk situations or sensitive animals (e.g., breeders, dairy cows, youngstock), where broader coverage is critical.
- Mycosorb Evo: For moderate-risk environments, offering strong and effective protection.
This tiered strategy allows producers to apply the right solution for their herd or flock, avoiding both under- and over-treatment.
More than a binder: Holistic mycotoxin management
Both Mycosorb A+ Evo and Mycosorb Evo are designed to fit seamlessly into a proactive mycotoxin management strategy, not just reacting to contamination, but proactively addressing the challenge before it takes a toll on productivity and profitability. These technologies are an integral part of the Alltech Mycotoxin Management program, a holistic approach that integrates on-farm and feed mill testing to identify risk and provide data-driven insights from global monitoring, ongoing support from technical experts, and next-generation mitigation to protect health and productivity. The result is greater feed quality, healthier livestock and improved performance and profitability, even in today’s increasingly challenging mycotoxin landscape.
Raising the standard in feed safety
The launch of Mycosorb A+ Evo and Mycosorb Evo represents the next evolution in mycotoxin mitigation — combining global data, advanced scientific research and practical application to help producers protect their animals and drive performance.
