Paul Groenewegen, Global NuPro Product Champion, interviews leading nutritionists Tommy Shipp and Walter Tibbetts of Cape Fear Consulting, a swine consulting group located in North Carolina.

Dr. Thomas Shipp
Read Biography
Dr. Shipp is originally from Alabama and graduated from Auburn University with a BS degree in Agricultural Education. He then taught high school Vocational Agriculture for one year prior to pursuing graduate work at Mississippi State University. He received both MS and PhD degrees in Swine Nutrition from MSU. Dr. Shipp has worked in various capacities with Hanor, Trouw Nutrition and Archer Daniels Midland. In June, 2006, he joined Cape Fear Consulting and is currently managing the research program and several individual client accounts. Tommy is an avid student of history and enjoys visiting Civil War battlefields and other historical sites.

Dr. Walter Tibbetts
Read Biography
Dr. Tibbetts received his BS from the University of Georgia as well as his MS and PhD degrees in Animal Science with a swine nutrition emphasis. As a university professor in Animal Science for 10 years in Arkansas and Kentucky, Walter directed meats and judging programs in addition to the swine programs. He has served as the monogastric nutritionist for MFA and Agritronics, as well as the Director of Operations and Nutrition for a breeding stock company, all in the Midwest. Additionally, he served as technical swine nutritionist for Alltech’s international operations, traveling in North and Central America, Europe and Southeast Asia. Currently residing in Iowa, Walter joined Cape Fear Consulting in October, 2007 and manages several accounts in the Midwest. He enjoys fishing (especially trout), trail rides, and hunting for morel mushrooms in the spring.

Shipp fed two diets in the nursery. One was a standard nursery diet and the other was a diet formulated with NuPro.
Dr. Shipp monitored the pigs through the grow finish phase and specifically measured feed conversion, average daily gain, feed cost per pig and feed efficiency in both groups.
At 1 p.m. CDT on May 28th, Cape Fear Consulting will tell us their findings from this trial.
Following the iCast, on June 6th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. during World Pork Expo, Dr. Tibbetts will be at the Alltech booth (#217) in the Varied Industries Building to participate in a live Q&A session. He will answer questions that you have pertaining to the trial.
