Generation Ali Movement to Launch During the London Olympic Games

Alltech to Sponsor Worldwide Social Media Campaign

LOUISVILLE, KY (July 23, 2012)… While the Olympic Games symbolize the spirit of excellence, global unity, and healthy competition, a new movement called Generation Ali will inspire a new generation of leaders beyond the Olympics to achieve greatness on local, national, and global levels. The Generation Ali social media campaign, sponsored by Lexington, Kentucky-based Alltech, will launch at the London Olympics and will link young leaders around the world to collaborate and encourage one another to transform the world in positive and compassionate ways.

The Olympics are a fitting time to launch such a global campaign, for Muhammad Ali, co-founder of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky USA, has been associated with the Olympic Games for over fifty years. In 1960 in Rome, Mr. Ali (then Cassius Clay) first broke onto the world stage by winning Olympic Gold. Thirty-six years later, he appeared in front of the world again on a summer’s night in Atlanta, Georgia, where he would light the Olympic cauldron in front of 3 billion people. Many years and several Olympics since then, individuals around the world still remember that moment with emotion and awe.

“Muhammad Ali has a unique power to inspire and motivate people, and we are proud to support the Generation Ali project because we share the passion to make positive changes for future generations. And with passion, we can achieve great things,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech.

In recent years, Alltech and the Muhammad Ali Center have been partners on several initiatives: a weeklong trip to the United Kingdom and Ireland to raise awareness and support for the Alltech-Muhammad Ali Center Global Education and Charitable Fund; the Be A Hero Campaign to help children, and activities that took place in 2010 during the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington.

Donald Lassere, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Muhammad Ali Center said that he could not be more pleased that two Kentucky-based international companies would be once again partnering, and especially on such an impactful and far-reaching initiative.

“Muhammad Ali has proven that one person can be a spark that lights the flame of inspiration and change the world,” Lassere continued. “Generation Ali will take up the torch and continue Muhammad’s legacy by inspiring a new generation of leaders to create better lives, better nations, and a better world.”

The Generation Ali movement draws its inspiration from Muhammad Ali himself and the six principles that have guided him throughout his life:   Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect, and Spirituality.
