Misback Strikes a Par-fect Ending to Alltech Invitational Tournament

[Lexington, KENTUCKY] - As a young man who spent numerous summers picking up golf balls, cleaning off carts and working the grounds at the Connemara Golf Course in Nicholasville, it was quite fitting that Alex Misback returned to that very course on Saturday to win his first professional tournament, the Alltech Invitational.

Alex Misback won $13,000 in prizes from the Alltech Invitational.

Misback won the tournament with a score of four under par (66) with only half of the field breaking par in this competition. This accomplishment is amazing enough but it's made even more impressive by the fact that Alex didn't pick up a golf club until he was 15 years old. And with the number of wins he has accrued thus far, he's obviously making up for lost time.

During his freshman year at Morehead State University, he walked on as a member of the golf team, but by his sophomore year he played well enough to earn a scholarship.

By the time Misback reached senior year, he played in all 11 tournaments. His highest finish was 2nd place at the University of Cincinnati Tournament at Traditions Golf Club (2010-2011), and he was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Player of the Week for his play. Misback also holds the course record (61) at Eagles Trace Golf Course in Morehead. He finished T14 in the Kentucky State Am before turning pro this year.

Two weeks ago Misback graduated from Morehead State University with a degree in Agriculture Science in Turf Management. He couldn't imagine a better graduation gift: $13,000 in prizes from the Alltech Invitational.

"I could not be more proud," said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. "I have known Alex for six years and he is a wonderful young man with a lot of talent and respect for the game and his parents. His story truly embodies the spirit of what Alltech is about."

The magnitude of Saturday's win is still sinking in with Alex. Sunday morning he sent a text to Bo Starnes, his friend of many years: "Did this really just happen to me?" Later that afternoon he invited his parents to a celebratory dinner to thank them for their never-ending encouragement and support.

The Alltech Invitational is an annual event held at the Connemara Golf Course in Nicholasville. Built in 1992, Connemara Golf Course is situated in the heart of the Bluegrass amidst the rolling hills of Connemara Farm which dates to 1833. A percentage of the money raised at Saturday's tournament will go towards the Alltech ACE Foundation, a charitable foundation to help fund the philanthropic efforts of the company, its employees and partners around the world.
