Alltech is investing heavily in Brazil at the moment and is currently undertaking a joint venture with a sugar plant company, Vale do IvaÃ, Parana, Brazil. This is a US$25 million investment, resulting in a state-of-the-art facility, with the largest yeast production in the world. The new plant is scheduled to begin operation in September of this year. Dr. Lyons further explained that, "This facility is the world's largest yeast factory; has the capacity to produce up to 50,000 tonnes of yeast a year with investment in the plant totalling US$40 million by 2007. The plant, surrounded by sugar cane plantations, is designed to use almost 100% of renewable raw materials, which are sourced locally. Sugar cane will be the primary source for fermentation and the manufacturing of Alltech's natural products. This not only enables Alltech to better serve the fast-growing markets of Latin America, but also to export worldwide to our 85 markets worldwide.
