Alltech Co-Sponsors Chinese Elementary School in Earthquake Relief Effort with Kentucky Organizations
[Lexington, KY] - Alltech, a global leader in animal health and nutrition, is continuing its investment in the education and development of the world's children through its sponsorship of an elementary school in China. The Xiang-E Elementary School will be rebuilt in Sichuan, a highly-populated province that was devastated by the 8.0 magnitude earthquake on May 12, 2008. Located near the epicentre of the earthquake, the Xiang-E Elementary School collapsed, killing over 370 of the teachers and students.
Alltech is partnering with the Kentucky Chinese American Association in joining the Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund in Louisville, Ky., USA, to provide the school with $100,000 for a rainwater collection and conservation system, a library, and three special classrooms dedicated to music, art, and nature respectively. The classrooms will be named in honor of Kentucky.
"We are so grateful for the opportunity to provide the children of China's Sichuan Province with a new hope through the Sichuan Earthquake Relief Fund," said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. "As friends from across the world, we consider it a privilege to participate in creating a brighter future for these children through education."
Immediately following the May 12th earthquake in China, Alltech began raising funds for disaster relief. Prior to committing to the elementary school project, Alltech sponsored a middle school classroom in Mianyang City.
The $2.5 million rebuilding project is being led and financed by the city of Shanghai with Shanghai's Tong Ji University engineering the school's architectural design. Construction is expected to be complete in June 2009, and the school will officially open for students on September 1, 2009.
Alltech is the proud sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010(TM) to be held in Kentucky, USA.
