Alltech Building New State-of-the-Art Fermentation

[Lexington, KY] - Global animal health company, Alltech, recently announced plans to begin construction of a $17.7 million solid-state fermentation plant in Springfield, the heart of Kentucky's agriculture sector. Supported by grants from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, construction on the plant will begin immediately.

"We see this as a major step forward for Alltech and Kentucky," said Dr. Pearse Lyons, founder and President of Alltech. "This allows us to bring cutting-edge technology to the state where we can utilize the local wheat crop and employ people from the local community: while allowing us to keep up with growing global demand for Alltech products."

The new plant in Springfield will add to the state's biotechnology industry, a knowledge-based industry that many regions hope to attract. Alltech anticipates employment of 35-50 people in order to meet growing demand for its products. The plant will produce Allzyme? SSF, a product beneficial in lowering feed costs, reducing pollution levels, and one that will utilize $1.1 million of locally grown wheat bran for production. Economic impact for the total economy is estimated at $10 million annually.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved Alltech's application for tax credits for the solid-state fermentation plant. This application includes a financial commitment by the state to accompany Alltech's financial investment.

Springfield will be the second solid-state fermentation plant in North America. The other, also owned by Alltech, is located in Serdan, Mexico. The Serdan facility is presently running at full production capacity, necessitating the expansion in Springfield. It is estimated that the facility in Springfield, when running at full capacity, will produce 500 tonnes of product per month, more than triple that of Serdan.

For 25 years, Alltech has been researching and providing all-natural nutritional solutions to the challenges of the animal production industry. With the proven success of cutting-edge brands such as Yea-Sacc?1026, Sel-Plex?, Bio-Mos?, MTB-100?, Bioplex? and Sil-All?, the company's product line is a unique example of how all-natural technologies backed by constant research can move the industry forward.
