[ Lexington, KY] - Alltech has once again shown its commitment to furthering science with the formation of the Young Animal Scientist of the Year (YAS) award. Alltech has created the competition through Animal and Dairy Science departments at various universities throughout North America to promote research and talent. The program will provide a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to interact with one of the industry's leading players in the animal feed industry. It will be divided into three phases: university, regional and national level.
The competition will begin in the fall semester of the 2005 school year, when Alltech will invite students to participate in the first phase of the program. In phase one, participating students will submit a paper chosen from a set list of topics relating to natural solutions to animal health challenges. The winner of the university phase will participate in the regional level competition throughout North America, where each candidate will be asked to submit a scientific poster. The regional winners will go forward to the national competition, which will be held at Alltech's Global Headquarters in Kentucky, where they will make a presentation to the National Awards Committee.
The winner of the Young Animal Scientist of the Year will receive a scholarship to spend time in Europe in the industry of their interest and will present their winning poster, along with the regional champions at Alltech's International Feed Industry Symposium taking place April 23-26, 2006.
