In 2013, Alltech forged a research alliance with Kentucky State University. One of 23 major research alliances Alltech has globally, the company’s partnership with KSU specifically focuses on sustainable agriculture, including aquaculture and crop sciences. Currently, Alltech and KSU researchers are taking a look at how they might revive hemp production.

IRISH FARMERS MONTHLY: Mycotoxins and pig performance

The presence of between one and 10 difference mycotoxins in over 90 percent of grain samples taken from a recent harvest survey has highlighted this year's continuing high risk of mycotoxin poisoning. Cathal McCormack, country manager for Alltech Ireland, the company responsible for the tests, hopes that the result will be a timely reminder that pig producers in particular cannot afford to lower their defences against this complex and destructive animal health problem.

As we approach midsummer, there is a lot of discussion among dairy farmers surrounding low butterfat levels in milk. While a decline in butterfat percentages are a common occurrence during spring months when cows are grazing lush grass, this issue can continue through the summer months. Reduced butterfat levels are an even bigger issue in this post quota era, as there is no penalty for over producing butterfat, however, increasing levels of butterfat should not be at the expense of milk protein.
