What Is the Dig In Program

The Dig in! resource pack contains 48 lesson plans which are all intrinsically linked to the Science, Geography and SPHE (Social, Personal and Health Education) curricula. The lessons deal with the subjects of Farming, Cattle, Sheep, Pigs, Poultry, Fruits and Vegetables, Cereals and Grasses and Healthy Eating. The lessons also cover environmental subjects which include the Hedgerow, Air, Trees, Water and Soil.

The Dig In! program contains important farming information, “did you know?” facts, activity sheets and much more. Innovative classroom activities including research, creative art, observation, seed planting and hands-on experiments like how to make butter from cream in the classroom are suggested for each lesson.

Parent and Teacher Guide

Kidzone is a resource which may be used by teachers and parents alike to supplement classroom work, projects or assignments or indeed as a resource for children to learn about modern agriculture, the natural environment and where and how our food is produced. The program has been developed in line with the school curricula in Ireland however the global reach of this program is obvious!
