Who can participate?
Undergraduate, PhD and Masters students of any animal or agricultural science field currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
How do students participate?
Students must submit a scientific paper based on a topic in the discipline areas of animal science, dairy science, veterinary science, agronomy, the biological sciences, or other related disciplines.
Undergraduate student' papers must not exceed 3500 words in length and graduate student papers must not exceed 5000 words in length. The program will include two phases: regional and global. To participate in the competition, all students must submit a paper by the deadline: December 31, 2012.
Is registration mandatory?
Yes, it is mandatory to submit the registration form by December 31, 2012. However, it is advisable to register as soon as possible as helpful hints for the competition will be sent to those who are registered before the deadline. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions regarding your submission before uploading it to the website. Registrants are also eligible for any prize draws that may be offered.
How will I know if my paper is a winner?
Alltech will communicate the date and location of the awards ceremony through contact information provided on your enrollment form.
Can I submit my paper in my native language?
In the local and regional phases, papers can be submitted in Chinese, English, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian. For languages outside of this group please use the Google Translate website and paste that translation with a note that it is a Google translation into the submission in addition to your original language. In the global phase, we will assist the students in having their work translated into English if necessary.
How will winners be chosen?
Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges specially selected for this competition. The panel of judges will be appointed by Alltech, and will consist of a minimum of three (3) members: one (1) representative of Alltech and two (2) researchers / professors / industry leaders.

How do I submit my paper?
First, you should complete the provided template using the accompanying instructions. Once you have completed the template, you may upload it as well as your paper in a Microsoft Word (.doc) or text (.txt) format, but not as a pdf file.
I do not have a registration form. How can I get it?

What are some examples of specific topics?

What are the judges looking for?
- Does the abstract adequately describe the content of the submission?
- Was the subject area narrow enough that an in depth submission was possible?
- Was the subject in the general topic area described on the website?
- How well is the existing literature reviewed?
- Is evidence provided in a logical order?
- Is there a convincing line of argument?
- Has the author gone beyond presenting facts (data) to explanations and understanding?
- Are the conclusions concise and accurate?
- Did the author communicate what he/she set out to communicate?
Does the program's definition of "Doctoral" degree in veterinary science mean that the program is intended for PhD students only, or does it include veterinary students pursuing a DVM (but not a PhD)?
Students pursuing a DVM are definitely eligible to compete.
Will Alltech publish my abstract?
Alltech publishes the abstracts of the winning papers to help publicize the program.
Will Alltech publish my whole paper?
No, Alltech does not publish your paper and encourages you to submit it for publication to the Journal of your choice after the competition.
