[Dublin, IRELAND] – Global animal health and nutrition company Alltech will host a meeting which promises to elevate equine nutrition to a whole new level. Under the overriding theme of ‘The Sustainability Principle’, the Equine Session at Alltech’s 25th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium (May 17th-20th, 2009) will look at new scientifically-based ways of naturally enhancing equine health and performance and preventing injury.

This meeting is a must for all stakeholders in the equine industry, whether involved in nutrition, health, performance, business development or event management. It offers a unique opportunity to become part of Alltech’s vision to build the ultimate equine athlete from the inside out and to find out about exciting new developments in the field of cutting-edge research, such as the effect of nutrition on gene expression, nutrigenomics. Greenness has firmly planted itself as an issue the equine industry cannot ignore, the meeting will explore this concept and look at Alltech’s involvement in pioneering a line of environmentally friendly horse feeds.

As Alltech is the first ever title sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010, attendees will learn about the company’s unique and proactive approach to equestrian sports sponsorship and how Alltech has utilized the sponsorship for marketing purposes, to increase sales and to build brand awareness. Here, initiatives include the launch of “My horse and Me 2”, an equestrian sports and lifestyle game experience, and a unique partnership programme which embraces over 50 health and nutrition companies around the world.

Leading academics and industry experts will offer research-based advice on mineral nutrition in horses, with a particular focus on phosphorus deficiency and chelated trace mineral supplementation. The contribution of good management, including thermoregulation, to the health and welfare of the horse will also be discussed.

This year’s Equine Session will also look at the logistics and planning of international equine sporting events and the impact of events of such magnitude on the industry in general.  Here, key topics will include: planning for a truly global event: the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010; the hospital of the Games and their objectives for the Olympics of equestrian sport; and lessons from top sporting events organisers for the horse industry.
