This week an impressive group of 761 farmers from around the world have converged in Dublin, Ireland for Alltech’s Global 500 event. The streets of Dublin are playing host to these farmers from fifty countries – from Austria to Vietnam and most dairy and beef producing countries in between. Three hotels in the leafy suburb of Ballsbridge in Dublin have been booked-out and the renowned RDS venue is playing host to the two days of meetings.
So where are all these farmers coming from?
The largest groups – featuring over 50 farmer delegates each - have travelled from the USA, Italy and the UK. The next largest groups in attendance hail from France, Spain and Canada who each have a group of over 30 attendees. Further countries with impressive numbers include The Netherlands, Brazil, Russia and Croatia.
The dairy attendees alone represent an enormous figure of over 4 million cows – that’s a whole lot of milk and cheese and scope for great depth of discussion across varied farming systems. As we say in Ireland “Céad míle fáilte” – “A hundred thousand welcomes”.
