Beerd and Justina Hop at Global 500

Husband and wife duo Beerd and Justina Hop go over their farm business.

“Farming is our life” explained Justina Hop. Like many other farmers, the Hops don’t consider farming a job. To them, it’s a way of life for the whole family. 

Justina and her husband Beerd left their family farm in Manitoba, Canada for a short visit to Kentucky in December to attend Alltech’s Global 500. Their son encouraged them to "leave home" so they left him in charge for a while.

Antibiotics may Impede Trade with Korea

In June 2012, the Government of South Korea announced a total ban on inclusion of non-therapeutic antibiotics in feed for livestock. The action by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MFAFF) in S. Korea corresponds to the EU ban on antibiotic growth promoters issued in January 2006. The EU directive followed similar restrictions imposed by Nordic countries between 1986 and 1998 and also by Switzerland in 1999.

Interviews with the senior Beef Ambassadors during their visit to Alltech's Global 500.

The National Beef Ambassadors, a team of energetic college students who advocate the nutritional value of beef, were in Lexington, Ky., last week for Alltech’s Global 500. The ambassadors met with beef producers from all over the world and heard industry experts speak on complex topics such as nutrigenomics, mycotoxins and carbon footprint.

Sights and sounds of the world's most progressive beef and dairy producers meeting at Alltech's Global 500 in 2012.

Thanks to everyone who attended Global 500 this year. You made the event a great success by contributing your knowledge and questions to the discussion. We appreciate how hard it is to take time out of your schedule for conferences, especially those of you who traveled many miles to join us.
