Moving Cows Home

This picture was submitted by Samantha Smith of her son and two sets of grandkids. Taken on a beautiful day in mid-February near Oakley, Kansas, the family moved cows about seven miles before a Midwestern snow storm was expected. The grandkids all enjoyed taking turns riding horses and riding in the ATV.

Samantha has about 130 cows and also has a background feeder calf operation. They grow wheat, corn, mile, alfafa and cane hay.

Samantha and Dillon Kujala, with their daughter Cheyenne, live and work on a ranch in Burns, Colorado for Albertson Cattle Company. This ranch has been in the family for over 100 years. The ranch is a cow-calf operation, running around 600 head of cows year round. Samantha is the fifth generation to be raised on the ranch, located in the heart of Colorado's ski resorts.

Coco Moanikeala LeMaster works with 4 Ag Hawaii, a non-profit corporation focused on promoting agricultural awareness in Hawaii. Her work consists of photography, educational videos and electronic media branding and marketing, including creative website design and all social media initiatives.

She developed a passion for telling the story of Hawaii’s cattle industry and unique Paniolo Heritage from the human interest perspective and helped initiate the “Hawaii Beef Education & Awareness Program.”
