Is Grain Quality Stealing From Your Profits

The old saying, “We are scraping at the bottom of the barrel,” seems about right when it comes to the current feed being used. With the 2014 harvest just on the horizon, many swine and poultry producers are finding the last of the 2013 grains being used in feed is of substantially lower quality. Even when stored in the best conditions, grains never improve quality during the storage period. Grain quality is either maintained or lost, taking with it the farm’s net returns. Corn, a key ingredient in swine and poultry diets, can represent close to 60 percent of the total feed.

What if... algae is the answer?
Anxiously, I awaited the opportunity to be in a room of international wisdom. The agenda had been reviewed and re-reviewed. As we approached the 2014 Alltech Symposium in Lexington, KY, I had been fully prepared {and excited} to attend sessions about drones, soil microbes and non-traditional farms. What fascinated me the most was their algae project. Over the last decade, I’ve been told many times by family, by friends and even doctors, to try taking a Fish Oil supplement to improve Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis conditions.

I have had the opportunity to share what I have learned with groups from coast to coast and met people from all walks of life.
