Pig Challenges

Farm Management

With over half of the world’s population living in towns and cities, urbanization has become a new challenge, especially as an increasing proportion of people will move from rural to urban communities. Fewer people in the rural community means that there are fewer people to work on farms and especially in production facilities, such as pig units, where dedicated labor is often in short supply. Fewer people mean more pigs per person which could result in compromises on hygiene and attention to detail in the care and management on farm. As a result, this may cause the use of antibiotics to increase in order to maintain healthy animals.
