Reducing Fishmeal Content

The search for alternatives to fishmeal as a protein source in aquaculture diets has focused on non-animal proteins. Soybean meal, corn meal and other plant-based meals are already used in aquaculture feeds but their inclusion levels are limited by the specific amino-acid requirements of the cultured species and by the presence of anti-nutritional factors in the plants. The use of specific enzymes, chelated minerals and alternative protein sources has contributed to increasing the usefulness of plant meals by increasing digestibility, improving nutritional quality and reducing the levels of anti-nutritional factors.
