Mucous Production

Strengthening barrier protection of an aquaculture species by improving the external and internal production of mucous, that forms this primary mucosal barrier, plays a vital role in the defense mechanisms of the species and is an integral part of the innate immune system.

Increasing the number, size and development of mucosal cells will result in increased mucous production per area of skin and gut. Components of mucous have been shown to play an important role in the innate immune defenses of the animal which in turn can be effective in the prevention of disease and parasitic infections.
