Overcoming the energy feed crisis in the livestock industry

[Lexington, Kentucky] — The rising costs of raw materials and the implications of using alternative energy sources are becoming an increasing global concern for the dairy and beef industry. How will the industry respond to these issues at a time when consumer choice is predominantly aligned with natural produce or organically grown products? Alltech’s 23rd International Feed Industry Symposium will address these concerns during an annual three-day event in Lexington, Kentucky, USA, from May 21-23, 2007.  The Symposium provides an opportunity for international livestock experts to discuss these impending issues and propose the most viable solutions that will advance animal feeding programs and ultimately human health.

During the Symposium, Alltech’s dairy and beef session will look at the various concerns listed below:

  • Looking at a future of dwindling corn supplies: Feeding North America dairy cattle - Dr. Michael Hutjens, University of Illinois, USA
  • Organic milk production: From fad to niche market to mainstream - Dr. Juan Velez, Aurora Organic Dairy, USA
  • Re-thinking heifer development: Faster growth on less feed with less waste - Dr. Jud Heinrichs, Pennsylvania State University, USA
  • Precision feeding, precision performance - Dr. William Chalupa, University of Pennsylvania, USA

Other speakers include David Wilde, Alltech UK; Dr. Bill Thatcher, University of Florida, USA; Dr. David Bohnert, Oregan State University, USA; David Davies, IGER, UK; Rosemarie Burgos, Chandler, USA, and Dr. Ron Kincaid, Washington State University, USA.

“Alltech’s Symposium will allow industry experts to come together to explore and present the latest research on areas such as dairy herd reproductive function and productivity, building less expensive rations, coping with environmental stresses of heat and understanding the significance of genomics in reproduction and its impact on profitability,” said Sylvie Andrieu, Alltech’s European Ruminant Technical Manager.

Species sessions will also be held in the areas of swine, poultry, equine, pet, aqua, and food quality and legislation.

Alltech is the proud sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010™ to be held in Kentucky, USA.
