Alltech hires Buhler to design state-of-the-art packaging system in Brazil
[Curitiba, Brazil] — Global animal health company Alltech announced it has hired Buhler, the worldwide leader in the design and construction of packaging systems, to design and install a fully automatic packaging system for its state-of-the-art yeast plant in Brazil. The new system will be built using stainless steel to create a true food grade quality packaging system.
Four dryers will feed eight individual silos, allowing Alltech complete flexibility in packaging the full line of Alltech products. From the eight silos, product will be gravity-fed to a state-of-the-art carousel packaging system with the ability to fill and seal 10 bags per minute. Computer programming and monitoring of the system will further allow Alltech to maintain the highest quality and consistency of packaging available. The project is to start immediately and will be complete in 12 months.
The plant, which is located in Vale do Ivaí, Parana, opened in 2005 and is the world’s largest yeast factory with the capacity to produce up to 50,000 tons of yeast a year. It is surrounded by sugar cane plantations and is designed to use almost 100% of renewable raw materials, which are sourced locally. Sugar cane is the primary source for fermentation and the manufacturing of Alltech’s natural products. This not only enables Alltech to better serve the fast-growing markets of Latin America, but also to export worldwide to its 85 markets.
